It has been about 13 months since I reviewed the game Corpse
Party for the PSP and after that 5pb have released Corpse Party the Anthology
Sachiko no Renai Yuugi Hysteric Birthday 2U which the limited edition came
bundled with a DVD with a short OVA called Corpse Party Missing Footage which
is what I’m going to be looking at.
May Contain Spoilers
Story
Corpse Party Missing Footage begins with the outside of the
infamous school Heavenly Host Elementary School in a heavy rain storm with
lightning crashing in the background. It then cuts to the bleak and dark
corridors with boarded up classrooms and blood-spattered walls until it goes to
the basement where a shadowy figure stands over four children who have been
blindfolded and had their hands and feet bound together by ropes.
The killer moves on again to the next child who is another
girl which he stabs her in the eye with the scissors and it cuts away to the
ceiling where the affixed light flickers while the sounds of the dying girl
resonate throughout the room.
Then it cuts again but this time we see the now bloody
scissors that were used to kill the children and the person who did it who is
hidden in the shadows breathing heavily and slowly and we see the remains of
each of the murdered children which partly hidden by the shadows. Then it cuts
to who appears to be the fourth child with her back to the wall and she then
turns her head, her face hidden by her long black hair and her seemingly blank
expression changes to a sinister smile.
Next we are introduced to Satoshi and Yuka Mochida who are
taking a bath together as it is a custom in Japan between family members (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Etiquette_in_Japan#Bathing)
and the conversation they have revolves around Satoshi and the upcoming Culture
Festival.
It then cuts to Naomi Nakashima and Seiko Shinohara and
Seiko enquires Naomi about if something is going on between her and Satoshi
while fondling Naomi’s breasts which earns Seiko a pillow in the face. Seiko
then touches Naomi’s butt and quick moves so she’s in front of Naomi and acts
like nothing and asks her if she’s sexually frustrated and she could ask
Satoshi for a “favour” at the Culture Festival to help relieve it and Naomi
decides she’s had enough and turns off her bedroom light.
We are now introduced to Sakutarō Morishige who is cycling
through the photos on his phone of the various attractions that the Culture
Festival is having like the Maid Café and also his cat and one picture of Mayu
Suzumoto who then calls him using a class president persona which changes to a
more casual tone when she wishes him luck with the Culture Festival when Morishige
brings up the facts that Mayu is transferring to a new school just after the
Culture Festival is over and reassures her that nothing will change other than
they will be commuting to different schools and she could call him anytime she
wants and there’s nothing to be afraid of however Mayu doesn’t want anything to
change and they both say goodbye over the phone and hang up with Morishige with
a small smile on his face and Mayu’s spirits raised.
Next we are introduced to Yoshiki Kishinuma who is out on a
night walk when he spots a classmate Ayumi Shinozaki in a convenience store
using the printer and the two begin to talk casually leading to Yoshiki asking Ayumi
to karaoke which she quickly turns down.
Yoshiki then comments that she’s
having a hard time studying to which Ayumi replies that she isn’t using the
printer for studying purposes and turns the subject to Mayu’s transfer and they
are all going to see her off after the culture festival and we then see what
Ayumi needed the printer for and it is a paper doll which she explains is for a
charm for Mayu so she and everyone else will be friends forever.
Finally we see that it’s the start of the Culture Festival
and Satoshi and all the other characters including Yuka’s classmate Satsuki Mizuhara
are going through the school’s main gate and being greeted by their homeroom
teacher Yui Shishido.
As
they go through the gate, the girl in the red dress is watching them from the
top of the ruined Heavenly Host Elementary School and her
seemingly blank expression once again changes to a sinister smile.
Music
The music used in this OVA seems to have been recycled from
the game and this is good because it sets the tone and overall atmosphere
nicely.
Final Thoughts
While the OVA is only 11 minutes long and it doesn’t add
much to the story of Corpse Party, it does however give a little more of a look
into the characters before the events of the game and provides a basis for a
full anime series.
Nice i want to play this game, i read the manga it's really good :)
